If you are party to a real estate transaction, you will likely be sending or receiving a wire. Unfortunately, 1 in 3 real estate transactions are targeted for wire fraud and there has been a six-fold increase in wire fraud losses over the past five years. Criminals pose as trusted real estate agents and as title company employees. Using this disguise, the criminals contact buyers and sellers directly using a spoofed phone number or email to try to trick them into wiring funds to a bank account controlled by the criminal.
